Roger Butler, 53
October 9, 1972 – August 18, 2026
Roger Lee Butler, age 53, passed away on Aug. 18, 2026.
LIFE
Born on Oct. 9, 1972, Roger was the son of Linda L. Butler and the late Arvil “Dude” Butler. He spent many years working in the oil fields, a line of work he truly enjoyed and took great pride in. He also loved spending time outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Above all, he loved his family. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, and the love he had for them was immeasurable. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a family who will carry his love with them always. Though his time with them was far too short, he will live on in the stories they share, the memories they cherish, and the love he leaves behind.

Susie Carson, 83
November 17, 1942 – August 23, 2026
Susie Marie Carson, age 83, departed this life on Aug. 23, 2026.
LIFE
Born Nov. 17, 1942, Susie was the daughter of the late Elmer L. Marcum and Flossie Jeffers Marcum. Susie enjoyed her talent of making memorial flowers. She loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren. She loved to talk to everyone and loved everyone that she came in to contact with. She has met her Lord and Savior and will await for her wonderful family to join her.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the chapel of Four Oaks Funeral Home in Huntsville. Susie’s wishes were cremation.

Faye Estep, 87
November 29, 1938 – August 21, 2026
Vauda Faye Estep (“Faye”) departed this life on Friday, Aug. 21, 2026. She passed peacefully surrounded by family after a long illness.
LIFE
Born Nov. 29, 1938, Faye was the daughter of the late Elmer Massengale and Clemmie Lowe. She enjoyed spending time with family, especially when gathered around a good meal, fishing, or playing cards. She treasured the simple pleasures of life and the time spent with the people she loved. She was an avid reader and loved to sew, finding joy and comfort in these quiet pastimes. Purple was her favorite color, a small detail that brought a touch of beauty and personality to the things she loved. Her love of family, her generous spirit, and the memories she created with those around her will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Murrell Hughett, 86
August 6, 1940 – August 21, 2026
Murrell Estel Hughett passed away Friday, Aug. 21, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of service, dedication, and love for his family and community.
LIFE
Born Aug. 6, 1940, Murrell was the son of the late Emmett C. Hughett and Reeda Patton Rector He attended Norma High School before beginning a life of service to his country and to others. He proudly served in the United States Navy as a Machinist’s Mate, Second Class, aboard the USS Midway (CVA-41). Following his military service, he established his career at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Merritt Island, Fla., where he worked until his retirement. His commitment to serving others continued throughout his life. He was a 58-year member of Masonic Lodge 353 in Merritt Island, Fla., and devoted 20 years to the Merritt Island Volunteer Fire Department. After returning to Tennessee, he continued giving his time and talents to others through 26 years of volunteer service with Methodist Medical Volunteer in Oak Ridge, Tenn. Throughout his life, he demonstrated a deep commitment to serving his country, his community, and those in need. From his years in the Navy and his work at NASA to his service as a Mason, volunteer firefighter, and medical volunteer, he gave generously of his time and talents. His willingness to help others and his devotion to his family will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.

Floyd Frank Hutson, age 79 of Helenwood, passed away on Monday, August 24, 2026, at Big South Fork Medical Center in Oneida.

Born in Oneida on March 16, 1947, Floyd was the son of the late Monroe Albert and Eunia Phillips Hutson.

Lonnie Murphy, 92
Winfield
November 1, 1933 – August 22, 2026
Lonnie Franklin Murphy, age 92, of Winfield, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at the Oneida Nursing & Rehab Center in Oneida.
LIFE
Born on Nov. l, 1933, in Winfield, Lonnie was the son of the late William Thomas Murphy and Irma Stephens Murphy. In his early life, he worked as a farmer and logger in Winfield and as a restaurant manager in Ohio and Florida. He left Florida and traveled to Pennsylvania where he enjoyed a career in metal fabrication for a steel company. Upon retirement he returned to Winfield. He enjoyed outdoor activities such as riding four wheelers in the mountains, gardening and spending time with his family and friends. He was extraordinarily meticulous about landscaping and maintaining his yard in a park-like condition.

Travis Shepard, 48
Oneida

Travis Lyndal Shepard, 48 of Oneida, passed away Saturday, Aug. 22, 2026.
LIFE
Born Dec. 22, 1977, in Knoxville, Tenn., Travis was the son of Lyndal and Nikki Marcum Shepard. He will be remembered for the way he loved people. He had a heart for helping others and was always willing to lend a hand wherever one was needed. Whether it was through a kind word, an act of service, or simply showing up for someone, he wanted the people in his life to know they mattered. He loved working on Jeeps. There was something about fixing them, tinkering with them, and bringing them back to life that brought him joy. It was one of those things that was simply part of who Travis was, and it will forever be tied to the memories people carry of him. More than anything, though, Travis loved people. He tried so hard to make sure others knew just how deeply they were loved, sometimes without ever realizing how deeply loved he was in return. Travis leaves behind a legacy that cannot be measured simply by the years he lived, but by the people he helped, the lives he touched, the laughter and memories he left behind, and the love he gave so freely.
